BBF starts xgs-pon ONU to verify that eight products meet BBG. 247 ONU certification standard
July 13, 2021
BBF said that it has started the verification of xgs-pon optical network terminal (ONU) based on BBG. 247 ONU authentication project. Currently, eight products have been received and verified to see if they meet the ITU-T PON standard.
According to the broadband forum, xgs-pon ONU will be tested in the LAN laboratory, and the ONU test platform of MT2 will be used to test the latest technologies, such as extended OMCI information format, enhanced unicast and multicast operation, capacity test and performance monitoring. The increase in these technologies will increase the number of forensic testing cases by more than 50%, the group said.
eight proven xgs-pon ONU products cover single user and multi-user port onus / L2 and residential gateway. They are from Altice labs, CommScope, Huawei, humax, kaonmedia, sagemcom, sercomm and ZTE respectively. Xgs-pon function is an extension of bbf.247 GPON protocol, which has certified nearly 100 products since its birth.
Robin Mersh, CEO of BBF, said: "our GPON certification plays an important role in ensuring that our products meet the standards. The latest expansion of the certification project will give operators confidence to promote the large-scale deployment of xgs-pon. Now, we will continue to push the industry to cope with the coming ITU PON technologies, including xgs-pon and ng-pon2. Xgs-pon is the main stage of network evolution, and its extended support for 5g and BBF. 247 authentication enables us to ensure network interoperability. "
